PYAAS and Parag: Bringing Know-Your-Milk Technology to a Heritage Dairy Brand — Aryan Sharma
On this page
Some of India’s most trusted dairy brands are older than most of the people who drink from them. They were built by cooperative movements that pulled millions of small farmers out of the reach of middlemen, and for decades they put honest milk on the table when almost nothing else could be relied on. Parag — the milk brand of Uttar Pradesh’s cooperative dairy federation — is one of those names. It is one of India’s oldest and most trusted heritage dairy brands, and it has earned that trust the hard way, over a very long time.
I am Aryan Sharma, Founder and CEO of PYAAS. Together with my co-founder and CTO, Kushagra Shekhar Kaushik, I started PYAAS on a simple, stubborn idea: that you should be able to know exactly where your milk came from. Today I want to share something we are genuinely proud of — PYAAS is piloting its Know-Your-Milk technology with Parag. This is the story of what we are building, why a young brand is helping an old one, and what it could mean for the milk in your home.
Who Parag is, and why it matters
Parag is not a start-up and it never pretended to be. It is the consumer face of Uttar Pradesh’s cooperative dairy system, run under the Pradeshik Cooperative Dairy Federation (PCDF). Its whole reason for existing was to give ordinary dairy farmers a fair, organised route to market, and to give ordinary families milk they could count on. For a great many households in this state, “Parag” has simply meant “the milk we trust.”
That kind of trust is not something a new brand can manufacture. It is earned across generations. So when we talk about working with Parag, I want to be clear about the spirit of it: we are not here to replace a heritage brand, and we are certainly not here to lecture an institution that fed this state before we were born. We are here to help it carry that trust into a world where people increasingly want to see the proof, not just be told to believe.
What PYAAS is actually bringing to Parag
PYAAS built its own technology because we needed it for ourselves. To promise Know Your Milk honestly, we had to be able to tie every single pack back to a real farm, a real farmer and a real quality check. That meant building two things, and those same two things are exactly what we are now piloting with Parag.
1. QR-to-batch-record traceability
The first is the part a customer can hold in their hand: a QR code on the pack that, when scanned, opens the record for that specific batch — where the milk came from, and how it was checked. It turns a printed promise on the front of a carton into something a person can verify for themselves in a few seconds. This is the heart of what we do at PYAAS, and it is the heart of what we want to offer a heritage brand.
2. A modern dairy technology platform
The second is everything that has to exist behind that QR code for it to be true: the platform that captures collection, keeps quality records, connects farm-level data, and follows a batch through the supply chain. A QR code is only as honest as the system feeding it. So we are not just handing over a sticker — we are bringing the full stack that makes farm-to-pack traceability real.
Why a young brand is helping an old one
People ask why PYAAS, a young and deliberately small brand, would put its energy into helping an established name like Parag. The honest answer is that our mission was never “sell more PYAAS.” Our mission is to make Indian dairy transparent. If the technology we built for ourselves can help a heritage brand give millions of families the same ability to see where their milk came from, then that is the mission working at a scale we could never reach alone.
There is also a kind of respect in it. Parag solved a problem we deeply admire — organising farmers and earning public trust. We happen to have built a tool for a problem that came later — proving that trust, digitally, to a generation that scans before it believes. Putting those two things together feels less like a business deal and more like the right pieces finding each other.
What “reviving a heritage” means to us
When we say we want to help revive and modernise a heritage dairy brand, I want to be careful about the word. We do not think Parag needs saving — it is trusted for good reason. What we believe is that trust built over decades deserves modern proof. A heritage brand that adds farm-to-pack traceability is not throwing away its past; it is making its past legible to people who grew up scanning QR codes to pay for chai. That is what reviving means to me: taking something people already love and making it transparent enough to love out loud, in public, with the evidence attached.
Being honest about where this stands
I would be breaking our own first rule if I overstated this, so here is the plain version. This is an early-stage pilot, not a finished, state-wide rollout. We are at the beginning — building, testing, and learning what it takes for our technology to work inside a large cooperative system that is very different from our own small operation. I would rather tell you exactly that than dress a pilot up as something bigger. Honesty about where we are is the whole reason anyone should trust where we say we are going.
Meanwhile, PYAAS keeps doing what PYAAS does. Our A2 Bilona cow ghee ships across India today, made in small batches from named farms in Gonda. Our fresh A2 cow milk launches in Lucknow from August 2026 and will expand across Uttar Pradesh from there — every pack traceable by QR to the farm, the farmer and that batch’s quality record. You can meet those farms on our farms page.
The bigger idea
The future I want is one where a heritage brand and a transparency-first newcomer are not rivals but collaborators — where the trust of the old and the proof of the new sit on the same carton. Parag spent decades earning the trust. If PYAAS can help add the proof, then two very different chapters of Indian dairy end up telling the same honest story: you should always be able to know your milk.
You can read about the technology itself in the piece my co-founder Kushagra wrote on what we are actually building for Parag, and about the two of us in our founders’ story. — Aryan Sharma, Founder & CEO, PYAAS

What is PYAAS doing with Parag?
PYAAS is running an early-stage pilot to bring its Know-Your-Milk traceability technology and dairy platform to Parag, the Uttar Pradesh cooperative dairy brand. The aim is to let a heritage brand offer the same farm-to-pack transparency PYAAS is built on — a QR code on the pack that opens the source and quality record behind the milk. It is a pilot and a collaboration, not a finished rollout.
Is Parag really one of India’s oldest dairy brands?
Parag is the milk brand of Uttar Pradesh’s cooperative dairy movement, run by the Pradeshik Cooperative Dairy Federation (PCDF). It has served UP households for decades and is one of India’s oldest and most trusted heritage dairy names. We do not claim it is the single oldest brand in the country — we simply have deep respect for how long it has earned people’s trust.
Who are the founders behind PYAAS?
PYAAS was founded by Aryan Sharma (Founder & CEO) and Kushagra Shekhar Kaushik (Co-founder & CTO), two school friends from Amity. PYAAS’s own A2 Bilona ghee ships across India today, and its fresh A2 cow milk launches in Lucknow from August 2026.
